This year I would like to honor Nicole's memory by helping raise funds for the Battered Women and Children's Shelter of San Antonio, one of the largest shelters in the country, which is in dire need of a new facility and supplies to house the pets of families that are in residence. Pets are an easy target for abusers, especially after women and children have fled their homes for immediate shelter, and because of this, many victims are reluctant to seek shelter until they can ensure that their pets are safe. Last year I toured this wonderful shelter and saw for myself the need for temporarily housing pets. Love and compassion for animals is something that Nicole and I shared.
